We would like to thank Moya Financial for their generous financial contribution to our treasured Planica FunEd Camp, helping to make it possible for many children of our club and Slovenian community to attend and participate in a week long nature-based camp.
FunEd is part of Planica Hunting and Fishing Club, an ethnic non-profit, organization of the Slovenian Heritage located just east of Bancroft and situated on 1000 acres of beautiful land with lots of forest, a lake and a spring fed pond. Through the volunteer efforts of members within our club, we have been running our week long FunEd Nature camp annually for over 25 years now. The camp premise is to build and sustain a sense of community within our club by working together, teaching our children about nature in order to instill a deep respect for our vast acreage of land, and fostering an appreciation for our treasured property in hopes of promoting a sense of love and responsibility to be carried on for generations to come…..while having lots of fun of course!!
This year our theme is ‘Habitats”. Children will develop a greater understanding of the four fundamentals a habitat needs for organisms to live and reproduce: food/energy, living space, shelter, and water. Planica FunEd Camp is about looking after ourselves, looking after each other and looking after our property. There are opportunities to play, explore, test and challenge ourselves. Activities that children will be participating in include hiking, a field trip to the Bonnechere Caves, indoor/outdoor classroom education on topics that explore different habitats, and games that all can enjoy. They will be exploring wildlife on a catch and release basis and will be preparing for next years anticipated outdoor camping trip. The participants and parents will share meals together, created and prepared for them by Skylar, with emphasis on nutrition and fun food themes for the week. Working together and playing together.
